“Let Your Gadgets Retire Responsibly!”
The astounding numbers of e-waste being generated has become a long-term concern due to its unregulated accumulation and management leading to major environmental problems affecting human health.
We, at Vagdevi Vilas School, Varthur, organised an E-Waste Awareness and Collection Drive to sensitise students about the harmful effects of electronic waste and the importance of its proper disposal and recycling.
As part of the initiative, an E-Waste Collection Corner was established on the school campus to encourage students to bring unused, discarded and non-functional electronic items from their homes. Students enthusiastically participated in the collection drive, contributing various forms of e-waste and demonstrating their commitment towards the environmental protection.
The programme included an informative awareness session conducted by Saahas Zero Waste, an IMS-certified Social Enterprise, that educated students about the environmental hazards of e-waste, responsible disposal practices and the importance of recycling electronic gadgets and appliances.
To further promote awareness and creativity, a drawing and painting activity was also conducted. Students expressed their understanding of e-waste management and environmental conservation through colourful illustrations and meaningful messages.
The collected e-waste was subsequently handed over to Saahas Zero Waste for safe handling and responsible recycling, ensuring that the materials would be managed in an environmentally friendly manner.
The initiative was a valuable learning experience for students, reinforcing the importance of the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and encouraging them to become responsible citizens who contribute towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future.
